Work alienation through the dialectical lens

Abstract
Work
alienation
(WA)
is
on
the
rise,
especially
in
today's
era
of
globalization
and
digitalization.
However,
its
foundational
ties
to
Marx
Hegel's
conceptualizations
are
often
overlooked.
Despite
extensive
scholarly
examination
across
disciplines,
conceptualization
WA
remains
plagued
by
a
lack
consensus
concerning
definitions,
processes,
operationalizations.
This
systematic
literature
review
identifies
four
major
definitional
approaches
their
inherent
limitations.
First,
equating
with
antecedents
diverts
attention
from
core
mechanisms.
Second,
definition‐by‐negation
leads
an
underspecified
construct,
raising
questions
about
empirical
congruence.
Third,
defining
through
correlates
risks
confusing
it
different
concepts.
Fourth,
expanding
construct
WA,
include
distant
constructs
surplus
meanings,
camouflages
WA's
essence,
hindering
deeper
understanding
phenomenon.
To
enhance
conceptual
clarity,
this
paper
aims
clarify
measurements,
guiding
theories,
triggers,
ramifications,
coping
strategies
within
organizational
contexts.
Drawing
Hegel
Marx's
dialectical
lens,
we
compose
definition
centered
three‐faceted
self‐other
dialectic.
Also,
present
three‐stage
developmental
model,
illustrating
how
develops
manifests
itself
as
relationships
among
self,
others,
work‐life
contexts
evolve.
By
integrating
elements
various
management
offer
fresh
perspective
for
new
research
aimed
at
preventing
WA.
addressing
theoretical
practical
challenges
that
may
arise,
emphasize
crucial
role
Human
Resource
Management
team
leaders
recognizing
mitigating
preserve
vital
individual,
team,
societal
resources.

present
study
examines
three
variables
that
are
associated
with
psychological
issues
in
merchant
seafarers:
anxiety,
depression
and
well-being.

points

Generalized
Anxiety
Disorder
(GAD-7)
questionnaire,

Health
Questionnaire
(PHQ-9)

Organization's
Well-Being
Index
(WHO-5).
Two
cross-sectional
surveys
were
employed
this
study,
a
total
sample
size
of
170
Spanish
seafarers
working
on
international
vessels.
participants
recruited
at
branch
Social
Marine
Institute
situated
Gijón,
northern
Spain.
PHQ
demonstrated
greatest
discriminatory
ability
each
points,
followed
by
GAD
WHO.
analysis
revealed
while
exhibited
highest
sensitivity,
specificity,
making
it
most
balanced
questionnaire
overall.
Holiday
duration
was
only
variable
significantly
related
to
any
scales,
specifically
findings
provide
foundation
further
research
maritime
mental
health,
particular
focus
prevention
accidents.
