Microplastics are recognized as common contaminants of coral ecosystem in Tidung Island, affecting both sediment and sea urchins residing this environment. Therefore, study aimed to determine the characteristics microplastics found sediment, mouth, digestive system (Diadema sp.), assessing relationship between cover percentage microplastic type size, transfer from urchins. Sampling was conducted twice, namely October 2021 2022. sediments were extracted using ZnCl2. Microplastics are widely present worldwide and of great concern to scientists governments due their toxicity ability serve as carriers other environmental pollutants. The abundance microplastics in different water bodies varied significantly, mainly attributed the initial emission concentration pollutants migration process determines abundance, fate, bioavailability water. Previous studies have proved that physicochemical properties themselves important factors affecting migration, but change external conditions is also one main controlling microplastics. In this paper, we focus on effects meteorological (rainfall, light, wind) distribution conclude influence affects inflow microplastics, physical chemical water, dynamics At same time, briefly summarized aquatic organisms, substrates, topography It believed organisms can affect through adsorption vivo transmission plants, feeding behavior, swimming, metabolism animals, extracellular polymers formed by microorganisms, original processes bodies. The issue of plastic pollution in the marine environment is a matter great concern. Our research presents pioneering findings on sub-surface microplastics Indonesian archipelagic waters. Data microplastic presence water Archipelagic Water crucial for expanding our understanding distribution from surface to bottom layers ocean, area that has been relatively overlooked. We discovered particles at 5 m depth below through simultaneous pump method. highest concentration was Ambon, followed by North Java and Sulawesi. In contrast, lowest abundance detected Maluku Sea. These are consistent with prior studies establishing relationship between human activity–as indicated population density–and pollution. However, results indicate levels Ambon were significantly higher than those found other sampled areas, particularly compared Java, which boasts density Indonesia. This disparity likely due faster seawater flushing rate shorter residence time relative Ambon. origins pathways these introduced into waters remain uncertain. Based particle composition (52.73% fibers 51.38% size <500 µm), it appears they may result either larger items being broken down during transportation over long distances prevailing currents input coastal areas or as byproduct local activities. Additional necessary gain comprehensive columns. includes investigating fate examining their impact organisms within this treasured ecosystem. Moreover, important develop methods mapping worldwide microplastics.
