Abstract Taiwan’s fishing industry is characterized by abundant marine resources and diverse operation modes. However, significant investment in activities has also led to substantial fishing-related waste. This study analyzed 1037 beach cleanup records collected from 2009 2018 across various counties cities Taiwan, focusing on the composition distribution hotspots of debris derelict gear (DFG). The results identified Kaohsiung, Hsinchu, Taichung, Tainan, Keelung—counties located northern western Taiwan—as top five regions with highest quantities debris. Among DFG, floating items were most prevalent (59%), followed (25%) tackle (16%). further revealed that influential factors for all three DFG types average tonnage boats boat number net type (N). quantity reflect specific characteristics each county, such as usage, aquaculture activities, consumer demand products. These findings provide valuable insights into primary their underlying causes different regions, offering a foundational basis development targeted governmental policies address management Taiwan.
