Plastic wastes —including cigarette butts (CBs)— are dangerous for marine ecosystems not only because they contain hazardous chemicals but also can finally turn into micro- or even nano-particles that may be ingested by and macro-fauna. Even large pieces of plastics trap animals. In this research, the pollution status macroplastics (abundance, size, type, colour) (CBs, number/ m2) on northern coasts Persian Gulf has been investigated. A total 19 stations were explored in Bushehr province (Iran), which covers a length equivalent to 160 km coastline. Among collected plastic waste (2,992 items), disposable mugs most frequent (18%). Plastics with sizes 5-15 cm abundant, common type was PET (P-value <0.05). The origin domestic (2,269 items). According Index Clean Coasts (ICC), surveyed beaches extremely dirty. average number density CBs study 220 2.45 items/m2, respectively. Household litter abundant studied beaches, problem better managed training improving disposal culture. general, it is suggested an integrated enhanced management fishing, sewage surface water disposal, sandy recreational implemented control waste.
