ABSTRACT
Echinoderms
exhibit
a
wide
range
of
reproductive
strategies
as
adaptations
to
variable
environments.
The
processes
gonadal
development,
germ
cell
differentiation,
and
spermatogenesis
in
echinoderms
are
crucial
physiological
that
warrant
further
in‐depth
exploration.
This
review
systematically
summarizes
research
from
early
basic
sciences
recent
studies
on
male
development
spermatogenesis,
encompassing
morphology,
histology,
physiology,
biology,
developmental
evolutionary
biology.
We
introduce
the
structural
cellular
similarities
differences
among
model
or
non‐model
organisms
five
classes
provide
insights
for
future
comparative
between
higher
vertebrates
lower
organisms.
regulatory
systems
involved
echinoderm
described
various
aspects
including
nutritional
supply,
environmental
factors,
neurological
influences,

mariculture
species,

gonads

exclusive

parts

sex-related
genes

superfamily

Abstract
In
temperate
broadcast
spawners,
gamete
release
within
the
reproductive
period
is
often
triggered
by
exogenous
cues
such
as
phytoplankton
concentration,
seawater
temperature,
or
day
length
(photoperiod).
Antarctica,
little
known
about
to
spawning,
even
well-studied
species,
sea
urchin
Sterechinus
neumayeri.
Here,
we
determine
spawning
time
in
S.
neumayeri
using
of
appearance
embryos
and
larvae
plankton
samples
collected
from
ice
with
a
collapsible
net.
Collections
McMurdo
Sound
at
three
locations
along
Victoria
Land
Coast
Ross
Sea
[Cape
Hallett
(72°S),
Terra
Nova
Bay
(74°S),
Granite
Harbour
(77°S)]
over
eight
years
showed
that
although
there
were
differences
embryo
larval
abundance
between
locations,
multiple
events
occurred
during
late
October/early
November
December,
regardless
latitude,
appeared
unrelated
moon
phase.
Exogenous
are
limited
early
summer:
sites
covered
light
penetration
water
temperature
generally
stable.
As
season
on
Antarctic
Peninsula
maritime
also
October–December,
hypothesize
an
endogenous
cue
plays
role
setting
gametogenesis

set
phytodetrital
