Hydrothermal liquefaction can convert biowaste into biocrude oil, and its wastewater byproduct (HTL-WP) has been confirmed with a wide antimicrobial spectrum. Here, we engineered strength-controllable selective bactericides from HTL-WP via regulation of feedstock operational temperature. Results showed that different feedstocks exhibited significantly inhibition on Escherichia coli Staphylococcus aureus. Increasing temperature varied effects antibacterial strength components. Thereby, HTL temperatures be used as switches to prepare HTL-WPs, showing S. aureus maximum zone 12.08 mm.
