The diffusible signaling factor family in microbial signaling: a current perspective

This review discusses the chemical properties, synthesis and detection, biological functions of a molecular group cis-2-unsaturated fatty acids, containing acid carbon chains various lengths cis double-bond configurations, known as diffusible signaling factor family (DSFF). Early postulation conserved nature DSFF among Gram-negative bacteria have now been challenged by latest evidences that unraveled their presence in other distinct microorganisms. Over last decade, significant depth breadth understanding has made on multifaceted DSFFs bacteria, interactions with evolutionarily divergent fungi, plants insects small animals.
