In recent years, almost all extraction processes in the perfume, cosmetic, pharmaceutical, food ingredients, nutraceuticals, biofuel and fine chemical industries rely massively on solvents, majority of which have petroleum origins. The intricate processing steps involved industrial cycle makes it increasingly difficult to predict overall environmental impact; despite tremendous energy consumption substantial usage often yields are indicated decimals. ideal alternative solvents suitable for green should high solvency, flash points with low toxicity impacts, be easily biodegradable, obtained from renewable (non-petrochemical) resources at a reasonable price easy recycle without any deleterious effect environment. Finding perfect solvent that meets aforementioned requirements is challenging task, thus decision optimum will always compromise depending process, plant target molecules. objective this comprehensive review furnish vivid picture current knowledge alternative, used laboratories alike natural products focusing original methods, innovation, protocols, development safe products.

In the over 1,800 articles published since their inception in 2001, most deep eutectic solvents (DES) synthesized have been hydrophilic. The low cost, toxicity, and bioavailability of DES make solvent ‘green’ sustainable for diverse applications. Conversely, hydrophilicity limits practical application to only polar compounds, which is a major drawback solvent. For past three years, hydrophobic (HDES) emerged as an alternative extractive media capable extracting non-polar organic inorganic molecules from aqueous environments. Due infancy HDES, first time, this mini-review summarizes recent developmental advances HDES synthesis, applications, challenges, future perspectives future, it believed will replace majority toxic used analytical purposes.
