Abstract Green and efficient agro-waste-based activated carbon has been prepared utilizing peanut shells for adsorptive elimination of an industrial dye, methylene blue, lead from polluted water. The carbonaceous biomass obtained was chemically using either NaOH, ZnCl 2 , or steam characterized by scanning electron microscopy, Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, N adsorption desorption studies. process optimal blue at alkaline pH, while pH 4.5 Pb (II) adsorption. takes place through pseudo-second-order kinetic, the rate-governing step procedure are intraparticle diffusion film diffusion. Furthermore, thermodynamics studied, Gibbs free energy (ΔG°) values negative (− 35.90 to − 43.59 kJ mol −1 ) indicating spontaneous investigated pollutants on carbon. As per correlation coefficient, results were best fit Langmuir isotherm with maximum capacity 303.03 mg g 130.89 (II). successfully removed %removal exceeding 95%. mechanisms interaction is a combination electrostatic ion exchange, interacts via π–π interaction, hydrogen bonds, interaction. Thus, employed decontaminate wastewater groundwater samples. developed promising, cost-efficient, green, accessible tool water remediation.
