Fluorescent probe technology holds great promise in the fields of environmental monitoring and clinical diagnosis due to its inherent advantages, including easy operation, reliable detection signals, fast analysis speed, situ imaging capabilities. In recent years, a wide range fluorescent probes based on diverse fluorophores have been developed for various analytes, yielding significant achievement. Among these fluorophores, dicyanoisophorone-based garnered attention. Dicyanoisoporone exhibits minimal fluorescence, yet possesses robust electron-withdrawing capability, rendering it suitable constructing D-π-A structured fluorophores. Leveraging intramolecular charge transfer (ICT) effect, such exhibit near-infrared (NIR) fluorescence emission with large Stokes shift, thereby offering remarkable advantages design development NIR probes. This review article primarily focus small-molecule dicyanoisoporone-based from past two elucidating their strategies, performances, applications. Additionally, we summarize current challenges while predicting future directions provide valuable references developing novel advanced dicyanoisoporone derivatives.
