Bridging the Gap: Understanding Access Barriers to Dental Services for Individuals Living with Multiple Sclerosis; a scoping review
Abstract
Background: Accessing
dental
care
presents
a
significant
challenge
for
individuals
with
multiple
sclerosis
(MS),
influenced
by
the
diverse
array
of
symptoms
associated
disease. This
study
aimed
to
identify
obstacles
faced
people
MS
(PwMS)
when
accessing
health
services.Method: The
Joanna
Briggs
Institute
scoping
review
methodology
was
employed
explore
Embase,
PubMed,
Scopus,
Web
Science
and
Google
Scholar
without
date
restrictions.
Barriers
services
in
patients
were
identified
subsequently
analyzed
through
thematic
analysis,
using
Braun
&
Clarke
approach.Result: Out
172
articles
searched,
only
three
met
inclusion
criteria.

from
these
categorized
into
4
main
themes
8
subthemes
as
follows:
intrapersonal
(comprising
lack
information,
manifestation
fear),
interpersonal
(covering
interactions
between
staff
patients,
systemic
support
needs),
structural
(addressing
physical
transportation
barriers)
financial.Conclusion: Patients
face
barriers
services.
Enhancing
wheelchair
accessibility,
improving
government
financial
upgrading
public
can
notably
improve
service
accessibility.
Additionally,
educating
implementing
specialized
training
enhance
their
readiness
provide
effective
patients.
