Monoamine oxidase A (MAO-A) is the main enzyme that deaminates serotonin. Correct serotonin concentration regulates appetite, improves well-being, reduces symptoms of depression, but also memory and heart function. In this study, use new compounds chemo-enzymatically synthesized from propenylbenzene derivatives as MAO-A inhibitors was proposed. Isothermal titration calorimetry analysis molecular modeling were used to determine inhibitory effect MAO-A. The such propenylbenzenes observed have no effect. However, in case diols hydroxy ketones, showed effects. particular, 1-(4-hydroxy-3-methoxyphenyl)propane-1,2-diol, both isothermal (ITC) modeling, high affinity for enzyme, thus protecting deamination. results suggest derivatives, bind at active site. This suggests their potential be drugs or food supplements prevent depression. These studies may constitute a tool further vivo vitro studies.
