Global pollution from fossil plastics is one of the top environmental threats our time. At their end-of-life phase, plastics, through recycling, incineration, and disposal result in microplastic formation, elevated atmospheric CO2 levels, terrestrial aquatic environments. Current regional, national, global regulations are centered around banning plastic production use and/or increasing recycling while ignoring efforts to rapidly replace alternatives, including those that occur nature. In particular, this review demonstrates how microbial polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHAs), a class intrinsically natural polymers, can successfully remedy persistent dilemma. PHAs bio-based, biosynthesized, biocompatible, biodegradable, thus, domestically industrially compostable. Therefore, they an ideal replacement for dilemma, providing us with benefits meeting all requirements truly circular economy. PHA biopolyesters green materials stages life cycle. This elaborates production, consumption, profile embedded current topical, 12 Principles Green Chemistry, which constitute basis sustainable product manufacturing. The time right paradigm shift manufacturing, use, disposal. Humankind needs alternatives which, as recalcitrant xenobiotics, contribute deterioration planet. Natural represent shift.

Pollution, climate change, and the loss of natural resources are still major concerns that must be addressed immediately. More more, industries realizing they need to include sustainability, social responsibility, circular economy, ethical sourcing in their operations. This chapter aims highlight how principles economy ideas—reducing, reusing, recycling, recovering—may help develop a sustainable supply chain, which is crucial addressing these urgent from industry revolution. Apart environmental considerations, industrial innovation, sustainability inside chains, this also describes those techniques (data analytics, blockchain, internet things [IoT], artificial intelligence [AI], etc.) with economy. Practicing chain management within working towards future more egalitarian, ecologically aware, resilient highlighted chapter.

One of the polymers with biggest production volume is poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC) considering their versatility, durability, lightweight, as well low cost production, plastics have recently become an essential part everyone's daily life. However, increased and usage poses significant environmental problems because incomplete utilization, a lengthy biodegradation period, detrimental effects on living things. This study examines latest findings in PVC research, including its properties, polymerization, modification, recycling, diverse applications. It has been proposed that during along application both inorganic organic thermal stabilizers, can mitigate some basic limiting characteristics PVC. chemistry extended by vast continuous study, mainly chemical transformations this polymeric material. describes modification using different materials active modifying agent. The latter included substitutions, modifications, nucleophilic radicals, removal or dehydrochlorination, grafting polymerizations. PVC's consequences are examined, overview functionalization provided article, discussion main reactivity trends lens recycling.

Pollution from plastic waste thrown into the ocean affects all levels of food chain. Marine species birds are affected by particles different sizes, especially mesoplastics (1 to 10 mm) found in their digestive tract, which mainly cause obstructions. In case microplastics (1.000 µm 1 mm), presence tract these has been widely reported. We studied fecal samples Dominican gull (Larus dominicanus) (n = 14), Magellanic penguins (Spheniscus magellanicus) 8), and Humboldt penguin humboldti) 1) obtained Wildlife Rehabilitation Center Biobío region, Chile. Microfibers various colors were present feces gulls penguins, corresponding composition polypropylene (PP) (83%) rayon (77%). These results demonstrate that microplastic occur coastal environments central Chile suggest they probably circulating

Plastics are widely used in manufacturing various products due to their durability, strength, and low cost; however, they originate from nonrenewable sources. The growing interest developing environmentally friendly materials has driven research toward the incorporation of natural fibers recycled plastics. In Ecuador, Guadua Angustifolia Kunth (GaK) bamboo is usually as furniture construction materials. Therefore, this work aims reevaluate traditional use GaK fibers, exploring potentiality using chemically treated reinforcement material for thermoplastic composites. This study presents development composite based on high-density polyethylene (HDPE), HDPE (rHDPE), an experimental design that includes performing tension, flexural, impact tests obtain optimal formulation. composites were characterized optical microscopy, SEM, FTIR, DSC, TGA, EDX, followed by a life-cycle assessment (LCA). SEM images revealed morphological changes while TGA indicated significant mass loss degradation above 200 °C all DSC showed melting temperature approximately 133 samples. These results there will not be fiber during processing. highest maximum tensile strength achieved among optimization samples was 18.69 MPa. All increase Young's modulus, with enhancement up 204% compared pure HDPE, albeit marked reduction elongation percentage. flexural increased 17.84%, but decreased 83% fiber-matrix compatibility ductility composite, which allows it absorb less energy before fracture. formulation had 10% cellulose, 50% 40% rHDPE, exhibited 17.62 MPa, obtained mixture regression. LCA demonstrated rHDPE-based significantly lower environmental virgin HDPE. Using rHDPE critical reducing footprint composites, incorporating further decreases GWP emissions enhancing certain properties.
