Abstract Solar energy is the most promising and ultimate renewable resource, silicon photovoltaic technology has gone through exciting growth globally. Organic photovoltaics (OPVs) provide solar solutions for application scenarios different from existing PV technologies. The organic technology, with synergetic progress in past decades, now reached 20% power conversion efficiency (PCE), which potential to empower serious new applications using unique features of OPV—light weight, colorful, semitransparent, flexibility, etc. concise review focuses on recent device engineering OPV background devices materials, especially nonfullerene acceptors, will first be presented; then, progress, focus active layer control morphology OPV, leading 19%–20% efficiency. parallel bulk heterojunction (BHJ) sequential layer‐by‐layer approaches summarized. transparent (TOPV) are great interest broadest design space among all This work reviews TOPV covering optical structure designs. future research directions discussed perspective.
