Zinc sulfide nanoparticles were synthesized successfully via chemical co-precipitation, both in undoped form and co-doped with Europium (Eu) Nickel (Ni). All prepared samples exhibited cubic zinc blende structure as confirmed by X-ray diffraction (XRD). The average particle size ranged from 3 to 6 nm for pure (Eu, Ni) ZnS, no alteration the crystal due Eu Ni co-doping. However, increasing dopant concentration (0, 2, 4, & at%) while maintaining a constant (4 led an enhancement crystallite size. This was further validated transmission electron microscopy (TEM), which showed sizes consistent XRD findings (3–5 nm). Microscopic analysis scanning TEM revealed spherical agglomerated morphology nanoparticles. Energy-dispersive spectroscopy spectra stoichiometric composition of ZnS: Eu, Ni. Photoluminescence studies demonstrated increased intensity green luminescence at at% co-dopant concentration. Moreover, promising gas sensing properties, particularly towards ammonia gas, good selectivity. Notably, ZnS rapid response recovery times room temperature, suggesting their potential applicability applications.
