The eyes are remarkably active during internal cognitive processes and often couple to events, but there is substantial interindividual variability in the amount of this coupling. These variations present considerable challenges for predicting states raise important theoretical questions about their origins. This study explores whether coupling serves as a compensation mechanism supports activities when task demands exceed individual’s resources or if occurs byproduct mental imagery, with its co-occurrence determined by quality an image. We examined how consistently eye movements aligned imagined movement visuospatial working memory related these coupled saccades measures capacity (Complex Span Tasks) imagery skills (VVIQ, OSIVQ). We found that rate saccades, was performed entirely mind, ranged from zero 90 percent. data showed some indications people lower vividness visual imagination might benefit coupling, hinting at functional compensatory role However, results were not robust, no adaptive response increased observed, challenging notion strategic use influenced removal spatial reference reducing frequency, especially those participants capacity. Overall, while partly aspects images, portion individual differences remained unexplained, highlighting need further research into processes.
