Abstract Design-based STEM learning is believed to be an effective cross-disciplinary strategy for promoting children’s cognitive development. Yet, its impact on executive functions, particularly disadvantaged children, still need explored. This study investigated the effects of short-term intensive design-based function among left-behind children. Sixty-one Grade 4 students from a school dedicated children in China were sampled and randomly assigned experimental group (10.70 ± 0.47 years old, n = 30) or control (10.77 0.43 31). The underwent two-week training program, while participated 2-week STEM-related reading program. Both groups assessed with brain activation regions interest using functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) behavioral measures during Stroop task before after training. Analysis disclosed: (i) significant within-group time effect group, posttest Brodmann Area 10 46 being notably lower neutral word conditions; (ii) between-group difference at posttest, showing considerably than group; (iii) activity three conditions task. These findings indicated that this effectively enhanced discrepancy between non-significant differences performance ones implies compensatory mechanism activation. enriches current theories about Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM) development, providing biological evidence valuable insights educational curriculum design assessment.

Abstract Background Rumination, thought to be induced by stressful events, is a pivotal factor contributing cognitive vulnerabilities in stress-related disorders. Previous studies have demonstrated an association between the prefrontal cortex and stress. However, functional connectivity of high ruminators during stress not fully understood. Methods 28 trait rumination group (HTR) 22 low (LTR) were recruited. Each participant underwent both Trier Social Stress Test (TSST) control task long-arm crossover design, while collecting near-infrared spectroscopy data. We analyzed static dynamic FC (DFC) under two different conditions then compared difference HTR LTR. Results induction procedure was highly successful Analysis on (SFC) showed that LTR exhibited marked increase SFC TSST, comparatively lesser increase. Further analysis DFC, prefrontal-based DFCs higher TSST with condition, but these patterns HTR. But variability DFC left IFG MFG related state rumination. Conclusion Current study may shed light aberrant pattern underlying its research this area elucidate specific mechanisms are impaired their impact emotional regulation psychological well-being.
