Background Primary aldosteronism (PA) is the most common form of endocrine hypertension. The available animal models PA rely on gene manipulation, thus fail to duplicate general pathological process in humans. Meriones unguiculatus (MU) has been reported possess a large size adrenal gland and an elevated ability save water. In this study, we aimed confirm whether MU can serve as ideal model PA. Methods Sprague Dawley rats same body weight (SD1) or age (SD2) were used control groups. Blood pressure serum aldosterone, renin electrolyte levels measured, oral salt loading test was confirmatory compare inhibition level angiotensin aldosterone system (RAAS) among three expression distribution CYP11B2 (aldosterone synthase) evaluated each group. Results exhibited typical clinical manifestations PA, including hypertension, hyperaldosteronism, low strong sodium retention potassium excretion abilities. Compared with groups, inhibitory effect high-sodium diet RAAS milder MU, accompanied by significant cardiac dysfunction. protein area significantly increased MU. Conclusion current study reveals that could spontaneous model. stimulate excessive production renin-independent manner, leading increase blood

Vasopressin and oxytocin are well known evolutionarily ancient modulators of social behavior. The distribution relative densities vasopressin receptors to modulate the sensitivity these signaling molecules. Comparative work is needed determine which neural networks have been conserved modified over evolutionary time, behaviors commonly modulated by nonapeptide signaling. To this end, we used receptor autoradiography 1a in Southern giant pouched rat (
