People

Sensory
health
declines
with
age
but
remains
critical
to
the
navigation
and
enjoyment
of
everyday
life.
Neighborhoods
are
key
sites
environmental
exposure,
social
engagement,
access
resources
that
can
shape
sensory
health,
yet
residential
neighborhood
is
understudied
as
a
determinant
function.
We
use
data
from
Rounds
1
2
National
Social
Life,
Health,
Aging
Project
examine
how
subjective
objective
measures
older
adults'
areas
associated
in
series
cross-sectional
multilevel
regression
models.
In
models,
higher
levels
perceived
ties
significantly
better
self-rated
vision.
Older
adults
who
reside
more
densely
populated
tracts
likely
have
worse
olfactory
identification,
whereas
residing
concentrated
disadvantage
lower
tract-level
hearing
propose
characteristics
could
influence
certain
exposures,
amount
time
spend
out
home,
patterns
preventative
care
collectively
affect
health.
Residential
neighborhoods
may
be
important
potential
intervention
slow
age-related
other
related
conditions.
