ABSTRACT Gem‐quality emeralds—the green color variety of beryl (Be 3 Al 2 Si 6 O 18 )—from some the most important world localities (Australia, Austria, Brazil, China, Colombia, Egypt, Madagascar, Nigeria, Russia, South Africa, and Zambia) were characterized using micro‐Raman spectroscopy. There are three main characteristic Raman shift regions in emeralds: fingerprint region (150–1500 cm −1 ) representative Si‐O, Be‐O, Al‐O bonds; water (3500–3900 ), nitrogen hydrocarbons (~2325 ~2914 , respectively). This study examined crystals gemstones representing 11 major along with one synthetic. The analysis involved a systematic crystal orientation effects (parallel perpendicular to c ‐axis) peak finding fitting center full width half maximum peaks Fourier self‐deconvolution Lorentz functions, respectively. Peak intensity was found be strongly influenced by polarization effects, bands around 1070 due Si‐O and/or Be‐O stretching, being affected. Colombian emeralds, carbonaceous black shales low alkalis, exhibited dominant type‐I (3608 both orientations showed highest N molecule ). In contrast, Madagascar Zambian emeralds had type‐II (3598 alkali concentrations. Preliminary linear discriminant (LDA) applied spectroscopy LA‐ICPMS datasets demonstrates distinct clustering pattern for emeralds. Furthermore, effectively differentiates Pan‐African deposits, specifically distinguishing Madagascan samples from ones. Including additional combined other would enhance potential as provenance tool.

The study of trace element composition beryl from the Chambalak and Digal deposits Darai Pech pegmatite feld Kunar province (Afghanistan) using secondary ion mass spectrometry (SIMS) revealed sectoriality crystal deposit. inner outer parts profle are identifed as pinacoid (0001) prism (10 1 0) growth zones, respectively. At boundary these two simple forms, Cs, Na, Ca, Fe, Mg, V content strongly increases. zone exhibits pyramids: a decrease in V, Ni, Cr during towards edge crystal. H2O Mg increases zone. No between zones is observed There reason to consider its A comparison based on indicative elements, increase which corresponds fractionation trend melt (Cs, Li, Rb), with other objects showed that studied was moderately fractionated corresponding initial evolution stages. It shown some elements can fundamentally differ.
