Wer einmal die 6. Sinfonie (1903/1904) von Gustav Mahler hört, wird sicherlich im 4. Satz dieses Musikstückes durch den Hammerschlag regelrecht erschüttert werden. High lipoprotein(a) (Lp(a)) plasma levels are significantly associated with an increased risk of developing atherosclerotic cardiovascular diseases (ASCVD). The aim this analysis was to estimate the prevalence and characteristics patients potentially eligible for Lp(a)-lowering therapies in a real-world setting (i.e., ASCVD Lp(a) > 70 mg/dL). For reason, we pooled data from large cohort Italian outpatients (N = 5961; men: 2879, women: 3982) dyslipidemia. A binary logistic regression used determine significant predictors cohort, which were age (Odds Ratio (OR): 1.158, 95% Confidence Interval (CI): 1.114 1.203,

Abstract Background Lipoprotein(a) (Lp(a)) is a causal, genetically determined risk factor for cardiovascular disease (CVD) in the general population. Patients with chronic kidney (CKD) have an increased CVD and elevated Lp(a) concentrations. Only few studies on were performed persons mild‐to‐moderate CKD; none of them used genetic variants to explore potential causal associations. Objectives This study aims investigate association measured predicted concentrations prevalent incident events German Chronic Kidney Disease (GCKD) study. Methods The included 5043 participants European ancestry estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) between 30 60 mL/min/1.73 m 2 or eGFR >60 presence overt albuminuria follow‐up 6.5 years. Results With each 10 mg/dL higher concentration, odds (1290 events) 1.065‐fold (95%CI: 1.042–1.088, p < 0.001). was significantly patients ≥50 but most pronounced ≥70 (odds ratio = 1.775 [1.409–2.231], 0.001) compared <30 mg/dL. Each concentration 3‐point major adverse (MACEs) (474 events): hazard [HR] 1.037 [1.009–1.067], 0.009 HR 1.335 [1.001–1.781], 0.050), respectively. Similar results obtained 4‐point MACE (653 events). Analyses based apo(a) isoforms led even stronger Conclusions In mild‐to‐severe CKD, determinants are associated at baseline during follow‐up, independent traditional factors.

Abstract Lipoprotein(a) (Lp(a)) is a low-density lipoprotein (LDL)-like particle in which the apolipoprotein B component covalently linked to apolipoprotein(a) (apo(a)). Lp(a) well-established independent risk factor for cardiovascular diseases. Plasma concentrations vary enormously between individuals and ethnic groups. Several nucleotide polymorphisms SLC22A3 gene associate with concentration people of different ethnicities. We investigated association Polynesian-specific (Māori Pacific peoples) coding variant p.Thr44Met) plasma cohort 302 healthy Polynesian males. An apo(a)-size assay assessed concentrations; all other lipid were measured using standard laboratory techniques. Quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction was used determine apo(a) isoforms.
