Cadmium (Cd) is a hazardous trace contaminant that naturally occurs in soil and poses global concern due to its severe impacts on human health ecological security. In plants, tremendous efforts have been made use some cost-effective, non-toxic, organically key growth regulators partake coping plants against adverse environmental conditions. However, the role of sorghum water extract (SWE) attenuating noxious effect Cd stress still limited various crops including maize. this study, different attributes, physiological biochemical indices Cd-exposed (0, 500 µM) maize were analyzed confirm protective SWE at concentrations (0%, 2.5%, 5%, 7.5%, 10%). application decreased such as plant length, number leaves, roots, leaf area biomass, deteriorated photosynthetic pigments carotenoids, chlorophyll b contents, nutrient uptake, especially calcium potassium ions increased reactive oxygen species hydrogen peroxide. Though, medium supplementation 10% level followed by 7.5% improved (plant biomass), uptake (calcium, potassium, nitrate, phosphate, sulfate) defense responses (ascorbic acid, phenolics, flavonoids) can be attributed enhanced functioning hermetic potential allelochemicals present SWE. The research highlights integration these promising approach future for sustainable agriculture keeping environment safe low costs.
