Atractylodes chinensis (DC.) Koidz. is an aromatic and medicinal plant in East Asia. The primary bioactive compounds this species are sesquiterpenes, particularly β-eudesmol, hinesol, atractylon. Cultivation techniques require improvement to meet the demands of species. In study, gas chromatography–mass spectrometry analysis A. germplasm showed its essential oil contained various including a high relative ratio β-eudesmol. Full-length transcriptome profiling revealed 26 genes related terpenoid biosynthesis. These belonged 13 gene families, five isopentenyl pyrophosphate synthase family four terpene family. functions were proposed based on expression patterns phylogenetic relationships: one was thought encode monoterpene three sesquiterpene synthase. Based results, central biosynthesis pathways major sesquiterpenes rhizome proposed, identified as expressed for first time. AcHMGR, AcFPPS, potential targets molecular breeding enhance content.

Background:Citrus Exocortis Viroid (CEVd) is a non-coding RNA pathogen capable of infecting wide range plant species, despite its lack protein-coding ability. infections induce significant alterations in various physiological and biochemical processes, particularly impacting metabolism. This study shows the metabolic changes upon viroid infection tomato plants (Solanum lycopersicum var. ‘MoneyMaker’) exhibiting altered levels salicylic acid (SA), key signal molecule involved defence against this pathogen. Methods: Transgenic RNAi_S5H lines, which have 5-hydroxylase gene silenced to promote SA accumulation, NahG overexpress salicylate hydroxylase degrade into catechol prevent were used establish different plants, resulting varying degrees resistance infection. The analysis was performed by using gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC-MS) explore role volatile organic compounds (VOCs) immunity Results: Our results revealed distinct profiles associated with immunity, where RNAi_S5H-resistant showed significantly enhanced production monoterpenoids Moreover, viroid-susceptible emitted broad VOCs, whilst viroid-tolerant exhibited less variation VOC emission. Conclusions: demonstrates that influence responses infected CEVd. identification differential VOCs CEVd could allow development biomarkers for disease or strategies control.

Rosa rugosa is an excellent aromatic plant species valued for both essential oil extraction and ornamental applications. This study aimed to evaluate its adaptive responses, bioaccumulation capacity, production quality under cadmium (Cd) stress, providing insights phytoremediation sustainable agriculture. A controlled pot experiment was conducted using two cultivars (R. ‘Zizhi’ bud mutation R. ‘Baizizhi’) subjected various Cd treatments. Growth parameters physiological indices, such as antioxidant enzyme activities, chlorophyll content, photosynthesis rates, floral volatile organic compounds, were systematically analyzed. concentrations ranging from 5 50 mg·kg−1 maintained growth, but significantly elevated activities (SOD + 65.94–300.53%, POD 37.58–75.06%, CAT 12.48–12.62%) content (+20.27–242.79%). In contrast, 400 severely inhibited inducing chlorosis leaf desiccation. Total volatiles showed a hormetic response, peaking at 200 (+46.08%). Sesquiterpenoids greater Cd-responsiveness than monoterpenoids, though core profiles remained stable. The exhibited root bioconcentration BAF > 0.1 limited translocation TF < 1, indicating phytostabilization potential. Despite tolerance up mg·kg−1, field application recommended below mg·kg−1—a threshold exceeding China’s soil limits (GB 15618-2018). These findings position it dual-purpose crop ecological restoration fragrance in Cd-impacted areas.
