The pulp and paper industry (PPI) is a major contributor to the global economy, but it also poses challenge for waste disposal, as generates large amounts of several streams. Among these, rejects are generated during papermaking process could account up 25% produced paper. Moreover, hundreds millions tons annually that end in landfills if not burnt or recycled. Furthermore, PPI significantly contributes climate change warming form deforestation water air pollution. Therefore, impact this on sustainability natural resources its adverse environmental health effects requires special attention. This review focuses discussing sustainable routes utilize from towards circular economy. At first, discusses itself impact, followed by possible approaches can be implemented improve processes well management systems, including recycling. literature indicates recycling crucial because, appropriately designed, lowers greenhouse gas emissions, consumption, manufacturing costs. However, concerns have surfaced about different chemicals used efficiency recycled quality. limited seven times. review, therefore, goes highlight utilization other than emphasizing concept converting into energy high-value materials, biofuels, biohydrogen, biomethane, heat, nanocellulose, hydrochar, construction soil amendments. Both benefits shortcomings these their applications discussed. It becomes clear solutions implementable, further research development still needed.
