Waste management in large urban centers is one of the main challenges for public administration. Two most abundant wastes cities are waste solid and municipal wastewater (MWW). Their can be optimized if they treated together. This work analyzed an anaerobic–aerobic system treatment fruit vegetable (FVWs) MWW. Firstly, FVWs were collected characterized; once laboratory, placed a tank with MWW, aiming at transferring to water those solids particle size below 105 µm; then, separated by sieving. The mixture MWW µm was fed into up-flow anaerobic sludge reactor (UASB); latter, dissolved suspended organic matter transformed methane carbon dioxide. that left UASB sent post-treated activated (ASR). chemical oxygen demand (COD) used as evaluation parameter system; removal efficiency higher than 80% achieved, whereas it 60% ASR. Another (CH4) productivity, average 3.0 LCH4 L−1 d−1. VWF leaching achieved COD extraction 7.68 kg∙m−3. on 70% assayed loads (2–8 kg COD·L−1·d−1). energy potential calculated 510.2 kW∙h∙d−1

This study aims to enhance energy recovery from sugarcane leaf (SCL) through two-stage anaerobic digestion (TSAD) for hydrogen and methane production. The influence of hydraulic retention time (HRT) on this process was investigated. Optimal conditions established batch experiments (5% total solids (TS) (w/v) rice straw compost inoculum) were applied in semi-continuous stirred tank reactors (CSTR-H2 CSTR-CH4). Remarkably, the highest production rates achieved with HRTs 5 days CSTR-H2 (60.1 mL-H2/L·d) 25 CSTR-CH4 (238.6 mL-CH4/L·d). Microbiological analysis by 16s rRNA sequencing identified Bacillus as predominant followed Lactobacillus Clostridium. Utilizing SCL TSAD could reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions 2.88 Mt-CO2 eq/year, compared open-field burning, mitigate fossil-fuel-based power plants 228 kt-CO2 eq/year. research underscores potential efficient significant GHG emission reductions.

Abstract The refining of biowaste into biofuels, particularly focusing on the organic fraction-municipal solid waste (OF-MSW), remains nascent and is influenced by factors such as energy requirements, microbial effectiveness, structural design. This article presents a sustainable thorough framework for evaluating environmental behavior associated with diverse biofuel from OF-MSW conversion methodologies. evaluation considers three different pre-treatment methods (acetone organosolv, hot water, acidic pre-treatment), several fermentation techniques (including ethanol ABE-F (acetone/butanol/ethanol fermentation)), or enzymatic hydrolysis approaches. Furthermore, analysis utilizes life cycle (LCA) approach. Within this framework, consequential LCA implemented, which includes process development to address issue multi-functionality use marginal processes designing foundational processes. biofuels produced, butanol, are analyzed their impact. To discern varying combined effects, methodologies sensitivity single score evaluations have been established. Research outcomes suggest that acetone–ethanol–butanol scenario does not provide an optimal outcome due its inability offset impacts through benefits derived byproducts. Among scenarios examined, Scenario SC-IV emerged most environmentally beneficial, showing significant net savings including decrements −854.55 PDF m−2 (potentially disappeared fraction, annually), −253.74 kg CO2.eq per 1000 OF-MSW, − 3290 MJ treated.
