Mushroom production is increasing rapidly worldwide, raising public concern about the contamination effects of spent mushroom substrates (SMS). Preparation Fe–N-doped biochar (Fe-N-BC) from SMS as a raw material for catalytic degradation antibiotics in water may be an effective and sustainable solid waste treatment. However, there limited information available. This study investigated effect potential mechanism SMS-based Fe-N-BC prepared at 300, 600, 900 °C to catalyze persulfate (PS) tetracycline (TC) removal. The results indicated that performance was significantly enhanced with pyrolysis temperature. Notably, exhibited high TC removal efficiency, 95% 120 min. might closely related fact temperatures had more Fe oxides active sites. Adsorption radical non-radical pathways were main mechanisms by Fe-N-BC/PS systems, especially contribution SO4·−. By identifying products, three possible proposed, toxicity intermediates evaluated. reusability analysis good practical application, rate still reached 76%, even after five cycles. These findings provide valuable reference resources’ utilization remediation antibiotic-contaminated water.
