We
report
on
the
aldol
condensation
of
furfural
and
cyclopentanone
in
aqueous
biphasic
mediums
as
a
promising
step
for
producing
sustainable
aviation
fuel.
Key
parameters,
including
catalyst
concentration,
reactant
temperature,
solvent,
were
found
to
significantly
influence
conversion
product
selectivity.
Alkaline
conditions
essential
coupling,
with
significant
observed
at
pH
12
higher.
The
activation
energies
formation
dimeric
trimeric
adducts
similar
74
76
kJ/mol,
respectively.
Biphasic
employed
prevent
precipitation,
leading
reactor
equipment
fouling.
For
conditions,
extraction
reactants
intermediates
organic
phase
affected
rate
selectivity,
resulting
dilemma.
Good
leads
inevitable
extraction.
Based
these
findings,
an
integrated
process
design
was
proposed,
utilizing
process-owned
solvents
optimize
separation
recycling
streams
improve
overall
efficiency.
