Abstract Background Recent research has demonstrated that domains of social determinants health (SDOH) (e.g. air pollution and context) are associated with psychosis. However, SDOHs have often been studied in isolation. This study investigated distinct exposure profiles, estimated their associations persistent distressing psychotic-like experiences (PLE), evaluated whether involvement physical activity partially explains this association. Methods Analyses included 8,145 young adolescents from the Adolescent Brain Cognitive Development Study. Data baseline three follow-ups were included. Area-level geocoded variables spanning various SDOH, including socioeconomic status, education, crime, built environment, context, clustered using a self-organizing map method to identify profiles. Generalized linear mixed modeling tested association between profiles PLE activities (i.e. team individual sports), adjusting for individual-level covariates age, sex, race/ethnicity, highest level parent family-relatedness, sites. Results Five identified. Compared reference Profile 1 (suburban affluent areas), 3 (rural areas low walkability high ozone), 4 (urban SES deprivation, pollution) greater PLE. Team sports mediated 6.14% 3. Conclusions found neighborhoods characterized by rural urban concentrations, crime Findings suggest social-environmental factors may differentially impact development

Background People with early‐life experiences of deprivation are more likely to develop psychotic symptoms. While the mechanisms this relationship poorly understood, research suggests a role cortical development. Methods In 6323 youth from Adolescent Brain Cognitive Development study, we examined associations between total, material, interpersonal, cognitive and neighbourhood at age 9–11 years psychotic‐like (PLEs) 2 later. We then investigated whether were mediated by variation in volume baseline or rate change follow‐up. Sex‐specific effects throughout. Results All measures associated greater PLEs. Most these partially structure widespread regions, including lower ventral visual sensorimotor regions particularly females, steeper decline association areas. Conclusions Early‐life may be via disruption structure. This phenomenon is common several forms continues into early adolescence certain regions.

There is substantial evidence of an association between self-reported child maltreatment (CM) and subsequent psychosis in retrospective data. Such findings may be affected by recall bias. Prospective studies notifications to statutory agencies address bias but are less common subject attrition These therefore underpowered detect significant associations for some CM types such as sexual abuse. This study linked administrative health data a large birth cohort that included protection agencies. Screening individuals who present is, therefore, indicated, greater awareness survivors at higher risk developing psychotic symptoms.

Schizophrenia spectrum disorders (SSD) pose complex challenges in mental health, with ongoing research exploring factors that influence their course. Emerging evidence suggests a role for hormonal the development and progression of SSD, making neuroendocrine biomarkers promising candidates constructing diagnostic models. This review spans past 12 years (2011–2023) focuses on use developing models, evaluated through receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis. A comprehensive screening nine articles involving seven countries over 3000 patients SSD was conducted. These emphasized efficacy predicting disease course individuals at clinical high risk psychosis or monitoring improvement during treatment. In general, models presented modest performance, area under (AUC) values ranging from 22% to 80%. However, one study distinguished itself by incorporating diverse array compound classes integrating scores derived CAARMS tool, which evaluates early signs symptoms psychosis. Impressively, this model achieved an AUC 90%. standout result underscores potential value broader range alongside assessments enhancing predictive accuracy SSD.

Both childhood adversity (CA) and first-episode psychosis (FEP) have been linked to alterations in cortical thickness (CT). The interactive effects between different types of CAs FEP on CT remain understudied.
