Chronic wounds are that fail to progress through the normal stages of healing and remain open for an extended period time. These often require specialized treatment approaches. While genes involved in wound play important roles chronic as well, specific genetic factors contributing still being studied. Some have been implicated their potential include Transforming Growth Factor-Beta (TGF-β) Family, Matrix Metalloproteinases (MMPs), Factor-Alpha (TGF-α), Hypoxia-Inducible Factor-1 (HIF-1), Vascular Endothelial Factor (VEGF), Nitric Oxide Synthase (NOS) Wound-Healing-Associated microRNAs. It's note multifactorial, requires a comprehensive approach addressing various beyond alone. Other aspects such underlying medical conditions, infection, local environment, patient-specific also crucial management.
