Published: Feb. 6, 2019

Tip clearance in pump induces tip leakage vortex (TLV), which interacts with the main flow and leads to instability of pattern decrease performance. In this work, characteristics TLV a mixed-flow are investigated by numerical simulation using shear stress transport (SST) k–ω turbulence model experimental validation. The trajectory primary (PTLV) is determined, power function law proposed describe intensity PTLV core along trajectory. Spatial–temporal evolution an impeller revolution period T can be classified into three stages: splitting stage, developing merging stage. oscillation TT found as 19/160 T, corresponding frequency 8.4 fi (fi rotating frequency). Results reveal that intensified sudden pressure variation at junction two adjacent blades. On analysis relative vorticity equation, it revealed stretching item Z direction major source shedding PTLV. dominant fluctuations on fi, same frequency. This result reveals dominated TLV. blade number has significant effect fluctuation side, because varies circumferential length passage.
