Smart meter data provide an in-depth perspective on household energy usage. This research leverages such to enhance demand response (DR) programs through a novel application of ensemble clustering. Despite its promising capabilities, our literature review identified notable under-utilization clustering in this domain. To address shortcoming, we applied advanced method and compared performance with traditional algorithms, namely, K-Means++, fuzzy K-Means, Hierarchical Agglomerative Clustering, Spectral Gaussian Mixture Models (GMMs), BIRCH, Self-Organizing Maps (SOMs), across dataset 5567 households for range cluster counts from three nine. The these algorithms was assessed using extensive set evaluation metrics, including the Silhouette Score, Davies–Bouldin Calinski–Harabasz Dunn Index. Notably, while often ranked among top performers, it did not consistently surpass all individual indicating potential further optimization. Unlike approaches that seek algorithmically optimal number clusters, proposes practical six-cluster solution designed meet operational needs utility providers. For case, best performing algorithm according metrics study is enhanced by integrating Explainable AI (xAI) techniques, which improve interpretability transparency results.
