The carbon-neutral target presents a significant challenge for the sewage sludge treatment and disposal (SSTD) industry, necessitating strategic planning low-carbon transition. However, flexible comprehensive carbon emission analysis tools to support this goal remain lacking. This study tool evaluate characteristics future mitigation potentials of SSTD. integrates life cycle inventory (LCI) modeling-based analysis, sensitivity regression scenario analysis. Carbon emissions are dynamically calculated based on properties, technological level, industry external parameters, providing foundation adaptable evaluation tailored local conditions. framework considers potential effects multi-parameter multi-aspect changes in scene design, both within outside achieve dynamic simulations. A case conducted Wuhan, China, demonstrated usability application processes framework. results indicated that from SSTD projected more than double 2021 2060 without interventions. Among measures, energy chemical savings would yield largest reduction potential, followed by technical layout adjustment promotion efficiency. Operational optimization contribute least. With all measures applied, could decrease -82.91 kt CO

As the “carbon peaking and carbon neutrality” strategy advances, emissions have gradually become a significant indicator in selecting evaluating sewage sludge treatment solutions. This study compared footprints of different digested post-treatment routes, taking Lu’an project China as an example. Considering anaerobic digestion options, are follows: 347.7 kg CO2 (land application) < 459.7 (composting-involved land 858.4 (brickmaking). In general, application was superior to brickmaking from perspective footprints. The power consumption incurred by aerating turning direct N2O CH4 during composting increase composting-involved footprint. However, that is not subject high-temperature sterilization compost phytotoxic can be fetid, which limitation its applicability. And composted has lower N ratio water content, so same input means more usage, conducive solving disposal problem large amounts sludge. Thus, if possible, should preference, improvements technique required minimize energy emissions.
