Oil rents significantly contribute to income in OPEC member economies and could have environmental consequences. The present study explores the asymmetrical effects of oil on CO 2 emissions 13 current using a period 1970–2019, also tests Environmental Kuznets Curve (EKC) hypothesis. Long-run results show that economic growth has positive effect, its square term negative effect Algeria, Congo, Gabon, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, which validate EKC these countries. However, U-shaped is substantiated Angola. Moreover, rising Angola, Equatorial Guinea, Iran, Iraq, Libya, impacts Nigeria, UAE. Decreasing reduce increase Algeria. are found short-run validated Libya. shows monotonic impact UAE, Venezuela. Increasing Kuwait carry Algeria In addition, decreasing Arabia. We recommend Arabia adopt tight policies times increasing avoid consequences rents.
