In pursuit of innovation-driven green development, effectively leveraging innovation policies for environmental betterment has emerged as a pivotal challenge in China's sustainable development trajectory. Investigating 287 Chinese cities from 2010 to 2020, this study adopts the pilot initiative National Innovation Demonstration Zones (NIDZs), cornerstone regional strategy, quasi-natural experimental setup. Utilizing double machine learning method, we probe into implications implementation policy on urban air quality, its underlying mechanisms, and heterogeneity outcomes. The empirical evidence underscores that significantly bolster result persists endogenous controls rigorous robustness checks. Mechanistically, setting up Zone can curb deterioration quality by reducing total energy consumption whole society, including reduction electricity consumption, use manufactured gas natural gas, liquefied petroleum gas. Regionally, Southeast demonstrates enhanced efficacy mitigating degradation PM2.5 concentration, whereas Northwest sees pronounced reductions carbon dioxide emissions following policy.

COPE-28 calls for China to control fossil fuel expansion and limit coal subsidies achieve energy systems transition make oil supply chains sustainable. has not detailed its program about this, which warrants more work in theory practice. Therefore, this research inquires determine with green finance ensure commitments conventional systems. The authors develop two scenarios using Chinese provincial categorization based on high consumption low consumption. High provinces are named Scenario 1 others as 2. applied the quantile clustering technique scenario analysis. study results show that limits by 0.22% fossil-consuming 0.17% developing sustainable chains.

Climate change poses a significant threat to the sustainable development of all countries. The transition low-carbon energy sources is crucial strategy for reducing carbon emissions and mitigating climate change. We investigate mediating role clean consumption (EC) fossil supply (ES) on promoting emission intensity per unit GDP (CO2/GDP) reduction by green bonds (GBs). develop model analyze how GB influences CO2/GDP through EC ES, utilizing panel data from 13 prefecture-level cities in Jiangsu province spanning years 2007 2021. Additionally, we assess model’s reliability endogeneity robustness tests. find that GBs contribute facilitating structural consumption. Furthermore, enhance plays direct advancing structure both Notably, observe heterogeneity effectiveness across different regions.
