The shift to a bioeconomy necessitates radical innovations move from fossil- bio-based economy, with bioclusters playing crucial role by fostering collaboration among wide range of co-located actors find solutions. Through novel methodological approach in regional studies (i.e., archetypal analysis), this study discusses the specificities and analyses relational properties within European bioclusters' knowledge networks. Results suggest four It is rare observe transition biocluster networks one archetype group another. findings provide data-driven typology, offering insights into designing informed place-based policies.

The integrated circuit industry is a cornerstone of modern information technology. collaborative innovation network represents an effective path for industries to achieve technological innovation. Therefore, this paper constructs multi-level the and analyzes its evolutionary characteristics formation mechanisms. results show that: cooperation demonstrates overall characteristic 'small clusters large dispersions', with prominent central nodes relatively high average length, which not conducive transmission. knowledge exhibit transmission efficiency, field gradually transitioning towards focusing on technology-intensive design edges between heterogeneous in two-level continue intensify, exhibiting spatial correlation 'multi-centers multi-centers'. Analyzing mechanism using Exponential Random Graph model (ERGM) reveals that within primarily establish connections through direct relationships. There significant interaction cross-level network. Degree centrality has role promoting evolution. Findings here provide theoretical support reference government formulate policies optimise industrial environment industry.

Technological collaborations are crucial for shaping the emergence of new regional technological specialisations. This article explores relationship between networks formed organisations, within and across regions, ability these regions to branch into fields. To identify organisations' collaboration structure, we exploit patent co-applicant data perform a network analysis 245 European NUTS-II from 1990 2016. Panel regression analyses reveal that (1) more locally oriented less dense region-internal network, (2) diverse set region-external linkages, (3) higher share single applicants in region positively associated with These findings highlight importance maintaining balance inward outward orientation acquire Regions must leverage both internal capabilities external foster processes renewal.

Abstract We investigate the role of both internal and external co‐inventor networks in regional diversification. The impact on technological diversification is tested for a data set containing 1,495,699 patents 643 technologies 290 European regions at NUTS‐2 level, between 1987 2016. Our results show that network connectivity linkages could benefit technology entry prevent exit. However, too inwardly oriented or outwardly connected would hamper patent production. Regarding diversification, we find facilitate related restrain exit complex technologies. This paper contributes to literature by initiating integration complexity dimension into analysing research bears significant policy implications advancement Smart Specialization Strategy Union.

The scale of the potential implications machine learning (ML) has prompted discussions on issues corporate control and technological openness. However, how commercial non-commercially oriented organisations each contribute to ML progress remains an open question. This study uses recombinant innovation perspective as a lens explore patterns across projects in source software (OSS) environment – where great deal occurs assess orientation influences such patterns. It builds unique dataset containing data 28,443 OSS projects, their code dependencies owning them. Exploratory analyses reveal that combine larger more diverse components, produce atypical combinations shorter timeframes than other both company non-company owned atypicality. Regression indicate tend rely distant technical knowledge, whereas novel application ideas. By extending theories motivation OS into new setting technology, this contributes literatures by confirming link between recombination still holds contexts characterised complex search spaces, suggesting complementarities non-commercial orientations environments rich knowledge diversity activity.

Abstract Firms may seek non-redundant information through inter-firm relations beyond their geographic and cognitive boundaries (i.e., with firms in other regions active different fields). Little is known about the conditions under which benefit from this high-risk/high-gain strategy. We created a digital layer of 600,000 German by using websites’ textual relational content. Our results suggest that strong (relations common third partners) between fields inter-regional are positively associated firm’s innovation level. also found specific combination weak confers greater benefits.
