Abstract In this study, the interfacial interaction between 3‐aminopropyltriethoxysilane (APTES) modified basalt fibers (BF@A x ) and waterborne epoxy was studied by using thermodynamic approaches creating a “wetting‐reagglomeration‐adsorption” isocontour map of epoxy. Combined with TG‐DSC, dynamic thermomechanical analysis (DMA), tensile, flexural, electrochemical impedance spectrum (EIS) salt spray tests, enhancement effects on thermal stability, mechanical properties corrosion resistance were demonstrated. From map, APTES modification reduces surface energies BF@A fillers from 53.05 to 50.27 mJ/m 2 , which results in driving energy for reagglomeration decreasing 17.04 10.41 adsorption increasing 20.24 20.77 suggesting that BF fillers' dispersion performance strengths composite coatings are enhanced. Compared varnish coating, tensile flexural (EP)/BF@A 9.5 coating increased 55.87% 36.36%, respectively, stability is enhanced, due optimal dispersion. Meanwhile, EP/BF@A 5.0 has best | Z 0.01Hz value above 10 9 Ω cm after 35 days exceeding 120 days. This work provides new insight into how one‐dimensional rod matrices affects composites' thermodynamics. Highlights Waterborne reinforced chopped BFs. Impact uncovered. Interaction BFs/epoxy interfaces approaches. Effect unveiled.
