In this paper, a vanadium dioxide (VO2)-based terahertz device is proposed to realize the conversion between broadband absorption and transmission functions, including VO2 bottom layer, dielectric layer pattern in three-layer structure. With change of conductivity, metamaterial can switch transmission. When exhibits transmission, it has high transmittance 90% for waves 5.6 THz 8.7 frequency band. absorption, 3.66 9.98 Furthermore, with increasing peak decreases from 93.8% 0% increases 1% 99.5%. An infrared (IR) tunable perfect meta-absorber (TPM) is presented, which configured of metal-insulator-metal (MIM) structure. The unit cell the TPM device composed two opposite T-shaped and rod-shaped Au resonators on reflective mirror layer. optimized feature size can achieve absorption resonant wavelength be tuned from blue-shift first then red-shift by increasing gap between continuously. tuning process red shift linear. By changing distance resonators, exhibits linearly. Moreover, shows polarization-dependent characteristic that main resonance attenuated 100% to 0% polarization angle 0° 90° incident IR light. has an excellent linear relationship with ambient refractive index, sensitivity maximum figure merit (FOM) are calculated as 1249 nm/RIU 21 RIU−1, respectively. These results prove design proposed very suitable for use sensing, switching, index sensing applications.

Abstract We present two designs of perfect meta‐absorbers (PMAs) utilizing metallic plasmonic grating, and they have resonances with ultranarrow bandwidth in the order nanometers great surface electric field enhancement through coupling resonance plasmon polaritons (SPPs) grating waves. Notably, grating‐coupled demonstrates pronounced incident angle dependence ambient refractive index sensitiveness. Meanwhile, its dependencies are almost linearly controlled. PMA metal‐metal (MMG) structure has period‐dependent angular sensitivity shows a 4.0039 µm/RIU that maximum figure merit (FOM) value is 2300 RIU −1 under normal light. The sensitivities 3.6514 4.3486 FOM values 2783 3941 for different oblique incidence 5°. Another design metal‐insulator‐metal (MIMG) both SPP localized (LSP) modes, it can achieve single‐frequency scanning spectral region from wavelengths 3 µm to 5 by changing or index. Finally, reconfigurable achieves active regulation irradiation simultaneously realize functions tuning, sensing so on.

We propose a meta-emitter based on micro-electro-mechanical system (MEMS) technology. The main structure of the unit cell is composed four symmetrically split crosses Au and SiO2 bilayer cantilevers. By changing size cantilevers, this MEMS-based can realize tunable perfect absorption, absorption spectrum within longwave infrared (LWIR) wavelength from 8.90 to 11.90 µm. When surface temperature rises, electrothermal actuation mechanism performed through different thermal expansion coefficient (TEC) Therefore, cantilevers will be bent downward bending height decreases linearly. In such case, peak value radiation power tuned 9.52 µm 10.48 when increased 293 1290 K. This proposed an excellent LWIR light source has potential application prospects in gas sensing, spectroscopy analysis, medical care so on.
