Water supply systems (WWSs) are one of the main manmade water infrastructures presenting potential for micro-hydropower. Within urban networks, local decentralized micro-hydropower plants (MHPs) may be inserted in regional electricity grid or used self-consumption at level. Nevertheless, such networks complex and quantification other than that achieved by replacing pressure reducing valves (PRVs) is difficult. In this work, a methodology to quantify hydropower based on excess energy network proposed applied real case. A constructive solution presented use novel micro-turbine conversion, five blade tubular propeller (5BTP). The location MHP within defined with an optimization algorithm maximizes net present value after 20 years operation. These concepts tested WSS city Fribourg, Switzerland. captures 10% city’s represents economic interest. results confirm PRVs as sites recovery stress need careful sensitivity analysis consumption. Finally, expedited method derived estimate costs 5BTP can produce given network.
