The generation of municipal solid waste (MSW) has emerged as a significant challenge to sustainable development in many countries. Pyrolysis, thermal process, offers promising green solution by converting MSW into biochars. This mini-review summarizes recent studies on the physicochemical properties and applications biochars derived from MSW. Potential uses MSW-derived include environmental remediation, soil amendment, carbon sequestration. However, diverse across highlight importance characterizing these materials before their application for different purposes. Nevertheless, present an attractive avenue management, with potential deliver multiple economic benefits.

Biochar addition in anaerobic digesters is an emerging technique for enhancing high-solids digestion. Recycling of biochar can further enhance performance and reduce costs production; however, mixing with feedstock separating from digestate impractical. A more pragmatic method applying digestion could be coupling a leach bed reactor (LBR) biochar-packed filter (AF) to form two-phase system. Separating the process between reactors improve efficiency by hydrolysis acidogenesis LBR producing higher quality biogas AF. However, systems inefficient if separation – referred as phase poor. This article aims to: (i) integrate current knowledge literature investigating batch LBR-AF understanding role different parameters on efficiency; (ii) explore idea medium Feedstocks that rapidly degrade have ongoing VFA production are particularly suitable systems. Controllable identified critical inhibitor mitigation include co-digestion, recirculation parameters, media properties, inoculation temperature. The application other highlights potential application. Future research should consider trade-offs when optimising performance, assess economic viability considering additional expenses

Water pollution caused by heavy metals (HMs) poses a serious risk to human health and the environment can increase of diabetes, cancer, hypertension in particular. In this study, two full-scale wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) industrial zones southern China were selected analyze microbial community structure, diversity, similarity, differentiation anoxic/oxic (AO) membrane bioreactor (AO-MBR) units under stress HMs. High-throughput sequencing showed that diversity abundance higher AO process than AO-MBR process. WWTPs, common dominant phyla Proteobacteria Bacteroidetes, while genera Gemmatimonadaceae, Anaerolineaceae, Saprospiraceae, Terrimonas. Manganese (Mn) zinc (Zn) positively correlated with Saccharimonadales, Nakamurella, Micrococcales, Microtrichales, whereas copper (Cu) iron (Fe) Longilinea Ferruginibacter. Additionally, relative abundances Chloroflexi, Patescibacteria, Firmicutes differed significantly (p < 0.05) between processes. These results may provide comprehensive outlooks on characterization communities which could also help reduce potential environmental risks effluent from WWTPs located zones.

This study describes the valorization of avocado seed (AS) within a green biorefinery concept using microwave-assisted autohydrolysis. After treatment at temperatures 150-230 °C for 5 min, resulting solid and liquor were characterized. The temperature 220 led to simultaneous optimal values antioxidant phenolics/flavonoids (42.15 mg GAE/g AS, 31.89 RE/g respectively) glucose + glucooligosaccharides (38.82 g/L) in liquor. Extraction with ethyl acetate allowed recovery bioactive compounds while maintaining polysaccharides extract was rich vanillin (99.02 mg/g AS) contained several phenolic acids flavonoids. phase phenolic-free subjected enzymatic hydrolysis produce glucose, reaching 9.93 105 g glucose/L, respectively. work demonstrates that autohydrolysis is promising technology obtain fermentable sugars from seeds following scheme.
