Solar energy has become the world's cheapest and fastest scaling electricity source. Multiple societal sectors are electrifying, scale pace of change give some hope near-future rapid climate mitigation through solar rollouts despite bleak record to date. Critiques utility-scale development foreground injustices like displacing marginalised groups perpetuating resource inequity. Governance scholars argue for stringent regulations towards just transitions, community research shows that smaller-scale solutions hold promise in being more equitable. Our contribution argues possibility redistributive emancipatory development, drawing from scholarship on governance (institutional configurations, policy mixes cross-sectoral regulation) (comparative geographies with attention context-specificity trans-local connection). We conceptualise operationalise term ‘solidaric solarities’ as modalities harnessing advance empowerment, interconnectedness wealth victims injustices. This focuses political economy issues, where can solidarity historically groups, create affordable distributed future renewable systems. Consequently, demand battery raw materials is continuously growing. As illustration, meet net-zero emissions targets, vehicle market lithium, cobalt, nickel, graphite will increase 26-times, 6-times, 12-times, 9-times respectively between 2021 2050. There are diverse challenges meeting this demand, requiring world embrace technological knowledge advancements new investments without provoking conflicts competing goals. uncertainties a sustainable supply of minerals, environmental, social governance complexities, geopolitical tensions throughout whole value chain have shaped regional concerns over success decarbonization. Here, focusing on entire batteries, approaches adopted by regulatory agencies, governments, mining companies, manufacturers, all other stakeholders evaluated. Bringing together these aspects, literature review broadens scope providing multifaceted solutions necessary optimize goal decarbonization while upholding sustainability criteria. Consolidating previously fragmented information, solid foundation more in-depth research existing difficulties encountered governmental industrial actors created. outcomes study may serve as baseline develop framework climate smart resource efficient batteries considering unique impacts individual players.

Renewable energy sources have emerged globally as a key lever to ensure security and promote climate mitigation. Cities need exploit this transition, but how they are building their strategies actions is undetermined. A new dataset, collected through the European 100 Climate-Neutral Smart Mission, offers unique insights on 362 cities which expressed ambition reach neutrality by 2030. Insights include level of preparedness, ambition, capacity risks envisaged in pursuit zero-emission greener futures. This study focuses particular role renewable across high greenhouse gas emitting sectors (e.g. buildings, mobility, waste industry). It analyses i) status quo for generation, consumption, policymaking, ii) measures enhance upscale deployment near future, iii) policies relevant instruments will evolve curb emissions accelerate transition. The that emerge from analysis discussed relation existing evidence, inform future research strands forms assistance cities.
