This paper aims to broaden the concept of Net Zero Energy Building (NZEB), assessing its suitability emerging grid-based energy sharing models. The exchange between two buildings with shifted load schedules, namely, a new residential NZEB (prosumer) and an existing school building (consumer), is analysed investigate dynamics. are in Southern Italy, region high solar radiation. model calibrated on measured data study performed by dynamic simulation. Three scenarios based design photovoltaic system installed roof have been investigated, i.e., PV peak power designed: satisfy target annual basis; monthly fully exploit available area NZEB. Considering net balances, oversizing leads compensation share non-renewable consumption. However, self-consumption analysis hourly basis shows that increasing size negatively affects rate renewable community, presence only mitigates this effect.

The need for large-scale energy storage in the context of renewable electricity production worldwide is evident. Among various methods, thermal stands out. It independent geographical location, allows high capacities, does not require scarce materials, and cheaper than its direct competitors. Currently, several technologies are being intensively developed. In some them, packed-bed systems play a central role: heat transfer fluid heats up or releases from porous solid that acts as reservoir. This work compiles their application to concepts such concentrated solar power, pumped storage, compressed liquid air storage. Different physical models with diverse refinement degrees corresponding computational schemes comprehensively presented. Comparison previous experimental works includes gas fluids, sensible latent transfers, wide range temperature levels. shown continuous 1D phase model solved an implicit Euler method provides satisfactory results reasonable computing time systems. influence step spatial mesh surveyed, well pressure drops. Efficiencies stored energies calculated particular cases, sensitivity analysis presented, including parameters velocity discharge time. Concerning latter, efficiencies long-time (between 10 15 h) fairly good, between 0.39 0.20.

The global transition to renewable energy sources (RESs) is accelerating combat the rapid depletion of fossil fuels and mitigate their devastating environmental impact. However, increasing integration large-scale intermittent RESs, such as solar photovoltaics (PVs) wind power systems, introduces significant technical challenges related supply stability, reliability, quality. This paper provides a comprehensive review these challenges, with focus on critical role storage systems (ESSs) in overcoming them by evaluating technical, economic, performance. Various types including mechanical, electrochemical, electrical, thermal, chemical are analyzed identify distinct strengths limitations. study further examines current state potential applications ESSs, identifying strategies enhance grid flexibility increased adoption RESs. findings reveal that while each ESS type has specific advantages, no single technology can tackle all challenges. Consequently, hybrid (HESSs), which combine multiple technologies, emphasized for ability improve efficiency adaptability, making especially suitable modern grids.
