The transition from fossil fuels to renewable energy is crucial for achieving environmental sustainability and carbon neutrality. research focuses on the global landscape of capacity, utilizing data 2024 report by International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA). was meticulously cleaned organized based countries sources, followed sorting in descending order performing Pareto analysis identify top 80% user countries. Graphical analyses, including bar pie charts, were employed alongside linear percentage calculations determine frequency distribution. findings reveal that 15 countries—China, United States, Brazil, India, Germany, Japan, Canada, Spain, France, Italy, Türkiye, Russia, Kingdom, Australia, Vietnam—account over (3,099,959 MW) world's total installed capacity. China leads with 1,453,701.25 MW, USA 387,548.59 Brazil 194,084.66 MW. Solar largest contributor, representing 36.67% hydropower at 32.76% wind 26.29%. Bioenergy, geothermal, marine contribute 3.88%, 0.38%, 0.01%, respectively. concentration capacity a few key sources underscores significant disparities adoption investment. emphasizes need tailored policies consider regional resource availability, socio-economic structures, geopolitical contexts ensure equitable sustainable development. Addressing these Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 7, which affordable clean all. This study provides valuable insights policymakers, highlighting importance diversified balanced approach neutrality sustainability.

The myriad and contested meanings of ‘sustainability’ ‘sustainable development’ lead many to refer both concepts as meaningless, oxymoronic, paradoxical. Yet breaking down such terms their key principles allows for introducing core concepts, constituent meanings, associated practices that should enable greater understanding. Despite this, understandings the interconnected nature sustainability sustainable development lack a holistic perspective among students. Exploring this area further, paper presents findings from 6-year longitudinal survey at Southern Connecticut State University which asked studies students (n = 150) perspectives on Rio Declaration’s sustainability. Findings study elucidate disconnections form predicated limited real-world global awareness projects alongside broad those accommodated by contemporary socio-environmental discourse. Conversely, consider alternative responsibility, cooperation, accountability, intersectionality, new economic pathways be value necessity opposed encompassed in Declaration. Summarising are preferable students, exploring implications related terminological evolution, article argues increasing engagement academics explore departure some discipline’s foundations.
