To meet UK government targets and support the transition to net zero, energy system will need decarbonize. In particular, buildings, as one of largest sources emissions, clean heat. This involve changes material infrastructure homes, which may have implications for people's everyday lives relationships, with public acceptability critical processes energy-system transformation. Alongside decarbonization, transformation has been positioned potentially able deliver significant benefits households. this article, we present qualitative data from deliberative workshops members concerning perceptions heat decarbonization. We explore how low-carbon heating is not necessarily seen an improvement where systems result in perceived compromises comfort convenience. contend that a temporally sensitive approach, explores past transitions experiences current well anticipated future technologies, can offer important insights into heating.
