In this study, the fracture initiation–propagation behavior of hydrate-bearing sediment (HBS) Shenhu hydrate reservoir in case connected pore water was experimentally studied. First, effects saturation (SH), clay kinds, and content montmorillonite on initiation pressure (pf), propagation area (Rs), fractal dimension profile (d) were analyzed. Second, calculation criteria pf established. The results showed that range study 5.88–9.27 MPa. SH mechanical strength deformation properties HBS lead to increase then decrease with SH, critical 70%. negative correlation between Rs d determined morphology regularity caused Rs. presence increased improved occurrence probability complex fractures. For whose tensile less than 0.44 MPa, Griffith criterion can be used calculate pf. higher modified von Mises established by adding correction term reflecting brittleness SH. absolute relative error ranges from 0.03 0.84 MPa −5.5 13.2%, respectively.
