Abstract Purpose. The purpose of this study is to quantify the life cycle environmental impacts biomethane from cattle manure used in passenger transportation Argentina, comparing fossil natural gas, biomethane, and with carbon capture storage (CCS) under current conditions 2050 prospects. The addresses following research question: can provide a net reduction greenhouse gas emissions without significant burden-shifting other impact categories? Methods. A cradle-to-wheel LCA was conducted using Brightway2 ecoinvent v3.10 database. Background processes were modified premise tool incorporate IMAGE, REMIND, TIAM-UCL IAM projections for year (SSP2 RCP-2.6 pathway). functional unit 1 km driven by car. Scenarios included cow manure, CCS, both avoided digestate substituting synthetic fertilizer. Impact categories assessed ReCiPe2016 midpoint characterization USEtox human ecotoxicity metrics. Sensitivity analyses examined distance. Results discussion. Under conditions, coupled CCS could reduce global warming potential 43.5% 73.2% relative (from 0.117 kg CO₂-eq/km 0.056 CO₂-eq/km) depending on distance transported, net-negative values achieved when urea substitution credits are applied. However, eutrophication acidification increase due application, while toxicity indicators rise higher energy demand upgrading CCS. Prospective scenarios projected further GWP reductions up 80% (e.g. scenario) decarbonized systems, but burdens intensified deeper electrification pathways. Key hotspots include methane leakage, grid emissions, management. Conclusions. Manure-derived particularly offers climate benefits Argentine transportation, may shift eutrophication, categories. Full neutrality requires reducing leaks, decarbonizing electricity inputs, optimizing use. Policymakers industry should promote decentralized digesters near livestock operations lower transport supply renewable use best practices minimize maximizing fertilizer benefits.
