ABSTRACT Marine chondrichthyans are experiencing a global decline, but identifying appropriate conservation actions is challenging due to the lack of basic biological information, such as growth parameters and reproduction. In this study, we identify ecological attributes that can be both easily obtainable effective predictors extinction threat. A bioecological attribute database was constructed for marine chondrichthyan species, including information on maximum length, habitat, reproductive mode, trophic level status, among others. Data sources included Shark‐References, IUCN FishBase databases. Following this, generalized linear model built with status response variable explanatory variables, model's accuracy tested each group. Then, applied species not yet classified (data deficient [DD] or evaluated [NE]) determine their probability risk. total, data were compiled 1225 Chondrichthyes (537 sharks, 636 rays 52 chimaeras); approximately 20% these DD NE. The demonstrated high overall: 95% chimaeras, 77% 72% sharks. Our analysis indicates that, NE, 58% rays, 44% sharks 66% chimaeras may at risk extinction. These results clearly demonstrate how serve proxies in provide solid foundation planning prioritization ecologically important poor taxon.
