China is facing increasing marine microplastic pollution. Despite the fact that South Sea largest area in China, ecological danger and present state of contamination this region have not been systematically comprehensively investigated. This study analyzed abundance, distribution, characteristics microplastics different environmental media biological samples from Xisha Islands Sea, then risk assessment pollution was conducted. The findings indicated quantities sediments, soil, water, fish, birds were 41.56 ± 19.12 items/kg, 92.94 111.05 2.89 1.92 items/L, 2.57 2.12 items/ind, 1.702 1.50 respectively. By evaluating load index (PLI), polymer hazard (PHI), potential (PERI), PLI as a whole level slightly polluted, PHI at high-risk level, PERI no risk, except for soil seawater, which medium-risk level.

Mangroves are coastal ecosystems of great ecological importance, located in transition areas between marine and terrestrial environments, predominantly found tropical subtropical regions. In Brazil, these biomes present along the entire coastline, playing essential environmental roles such as sediment stabilization, erosion control, filtration nutrients pollutants. The unique structure roots some mangrove tree species facilitates deposition organic matter retention, creating favorable conditions for development rich specialized biodiversity, including fungi, bacteria, other life forms. Furthermore, mangroves serve important nurseries many fish, crustaceans, birds, being fundamental to maintaining trophic networks local economy, which relies on fishing resources. However, have been significantly impacted by anthropogenic pressures global climate change. recent years, increase average temperatures, rising sea levels, changes precipitation patterns, ocean acidification contributed degradation mangroves. Additionally, human activities domestic sewage discharge, pollution from inorganic compounds, alterations hydrological regimes accelerated this process. These factors directly affect biodiversity sediments, fungal community, plays a crucial role decomposition nutrient cycling. Fungi, include various taxonomic groups Ascomycota, Basidiomycota, Zygomycota, sensitive conditions, making study their diversity distribution relevant understanding impacts change pollution. particular, bioremediation has gained significant attention an effective strategy mitigating ecosystems. Fungi possess abilities degrade or detoxify pollutants, heavy metals contaminants, through processes biosorption, bioaccumulation, enzymatic degradation. This potential can help restore balance protect adverse effects Recent studies suggest that temperature, salinity, chemical composition sediments drastically modify microbial communities influencing resilience ecosystem. objective narrative synthesis is point out fungi emphasizing how influence functionality communities. By exploring interactions, ecosystem restoration, it expected would provide solid scientific basis conservation strategies mitigate valuable

Abstract Background Plastic pollution, particularly microplastics (MPs) and toxic additives such as bisphenol A (BPA), endangers human health. Therefore, their routes in the environment need to be investigated. This study investigated microplastic abundance, (BPA) levels, antioxidant activity (AA) three commonly consumed vegetables—green amaranth, jute mallow, spinach sourced from two markets Osogbo, southwestern Nigeria. Microscopic technique was used determine MP shapes, colours. High-performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) analyse BPA contents while 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) assay measure AA. hazard index (HI) estimated dietary intakes (EDIs) were estimate associated risks food safety concerns with vegetables. Results In this study, abundance shoots ranged 4.00 ± 0.50 7.67 1.04 particles/g roots 5.33 1.53 18.00 6.93 green respectively, indicating subsoil contamination. Three shapes (fragment, fibre, irregular) five colours (transparent, white, yellow, black, brown) detected, fragment shape transparent colour dominating. Fourier Transform Infrared spectroscopic (FTIR) analysis revealed a predominance of polyethylene, polypropylene, polyethylene terephthalate, polyvinyl chloride, polyamide microplastics. The 5.55 0.56 6.65 0.00 μg/g AA 40.67 6.79 72.55 4.03%. regression principal component (PCA) identify relationship among factors (MPs, BPA, AA). It is suggested that high levels MPs negatively impacted vegetable quality they are environmental Contrastingly, had significant positive correlation quality. Both EDIs HI < 1, no risk exposure consumption. Conclusion highlights potential health contamination intake suggest immediate risks, but long-term remains concern. vegetables warrant stricter monitoring agricultural soil irrigation water sources. Microplastic crops can reduced policies regulate plastic waste disposal promote sustainable farming practices.
