Cyclodextrins
(CDs)
have
largely
been
investigated
during
the
last
decades
for
their
outstanding
properties,
such
as
biocompatibility
and
biodegradability,
with
wide
applications
in
pharmaceutical
field,
among
which
formation
of
inclusion
complexes
(ICs)
natural
or
synthetic
lipophilic
compounds.
This
review
prioritizes
research
recent
years
(2022–2025),
being
focused
on
(1)
systematization
ICs
based
structure
secondary
metabolite,
namely
(i)
polyphenols
(PPs),
(ii)
terpenes
terpenoids
(TTs),
(iii)
alkaloids
(Alks);
(2)
each
type
complex,
following
aspects
discussed:
benefits
complexation,
composite
materials,
vitro/in
vivo
theoretical
studies;
(3)
pharmacokinetics
pharmacodynamics,
risks,
limitations,
perspectives
cyclodextrin
metabolites.

metals
