Abstract Deterioration of water quality lakes and reservoirs has become major global concerns that impose serious environmental impacts for both aquatic terrestrial environments. In the current study, many parameters like temperature (Temp), electric conductivity (EC), dissolved oxygen (DO), turbidity (TU), pH, biological demand (BOD), chemical (COD), total alkalinity (TA), solids (TDS), organic carbon (TOC), nitrate(NO 3 − ), phosphate (PO 4 3− ) chlorophyll a (chl-a) were determined. The study covered Angereb reservoir its tributaries on monthly basis from January to March 2019 at five sampling stations in accordance with APHA 2017 guide lines physicochemical analysis. values all investigated parameters, except DO (at AU, AD, KU KD), COD TU, below maximum permissible limits set by WHO. Thus, findings DO, TU demonstrated remedial actions should be taken improve tributaries. Multivariate statistical methods (PCA CA) applied detect spatial temporal variations parameter. first three principal components enough develop PCA score plot which explained about 71.32% variance dataset. CA have provided similar information; grouped 24 samples into significant clusters showing but minimal observed within collected period site. BOD, moderately positively loaded space component found associated each other, whereas EC TDS shown moderate negative loading other. This suggested useful tools monitoring controlling selected surface water.

Heavy metal pollution in surface water of four lakes (Naivasha, Elementaita, Nakuru, and Bogoria) the Great Rift Valley Kenya, East Africa was investigated this study. Eight heavy metals including chromium (Cr), nickel (Ni), copper (Cu), zinc (Zn), arsenic (As), lead (Pb), cadmium (Cd), mercury (Hg) were determined using inductively coupled plasma‐mass spectrometer (ICP‐MS). Among tested metals, Cd Hg detected all samples. The concentrations Cr, Cd, Ni, Pb relatively lower than those other lakes. Results Kohonen self‐organizing map indicated that sampling sites Kenya could be classified into three different groups based on pollution. Lake Naivasha Nakuru had characteristics low Cu, As, Hg. Bogoria characterized by high levels Hg, Pb, Zn, As. Elementaita showed As Cd. Source identification principal component analysis (PCA) anthropogenic factor played an increasingly important role Africa. Analysis non‐carcinogenic health risks may pose adverse effects to local residents via ingestion route.

As part of the efforts to ensure adequate supply quality water from Danjiangkou Reservoir Beijing, surface samples were taken tributaries in normal (May), flood (August) and dry (December) seasons 2014, characterized for nitrogen phosphorus contents as specified applicable standards. Test results indicated that (i) organic pollution Sihe Shendinghe rivers was more serious than those other tributaries, concentrations favoured growth most algae; (ii) total (TP), (TN) dissolved inorganic (DIN) forms (DTP), (DTN) nitrate [Formula: see text], respectively, these seasons; (iii) compared with nitrogen, likely block an overrun phytoplankton; (iv) TN, TP, permanganate index (CODMn) ions positively correlated. These findings are helpful government develop effective measures protect source Danjingkou pollution.

Storm runoff events in the flooding season affect water quality of reservoirs and increase risks to supply, but coping strategies have seldom been reported. The phenomenon turbid current intrusion resulting turbidity anoxic conditions reappearing after storm runoff, deterioration quality, was observed deep canyon-shaped Heihe Reservoir. objective this work elucidate effects on Reservoir find a strategy. In study, an intensive sampling campaign measuring temperature, dissolved oxygen, turbidity, nutrients, metals were conducted reservoir over period two years, water-lifting aerators improved achieve single aeration full layer mixing oxygenation functions using different volumes gas. operation mixed three months ahead natural time, good maintained during induced period, thereby extending period. results can provide effective strategy improve source ensure safety drinking water.
