Emerging pollutants (EPs), also known as micropollutants, have been a major issue for the global population in recent years result of potential threats they bring to environment and human health. Pharmaceuticals personal care products (PPCPs), antibiotics, hormones that are used great demand health cosmetic purposes rapidly culminated emergence environmental pollutants. EPs impact variety ways. originate from animal or sources, either directly discharged into waterbodies slowly leached via soils. As result, water quality will deteriorate, drinking sources be contaminated, issues arise. Since treatment plants rely on resources, prevalence this contamination aquatic environments, particularly surface water, is severe problem. The review looks several related environment, including methods removing EPs. Despite its benefits downsides, processes comprise approaches such physico-chemical, biological, advanced oxidation processes. Nonetheless, one membrane-based filtration methods, ultrafiltration, considered technologies promises best micropollutant removal water. With interesting properties moderate operating manner selectivity, approach more popular than conventional ones. This study presents comprehensive summary EP’s existence toxicological consequences health, strategies.

Pharmaceutical compounds are ubiquitous pollutants detected in concentrations ranging from ng L−1 to µg aquatic environments worldwide. Hence, assessment of the occurrence and concentration range pharmaceuticals is great importance. The current work assessed different at end last decade, specifically 2018 2019. Every year, 100 published works on drug monitoring several geographical areas were reviewed estimate ranges environments. Antibiotics, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), psychiatric drugs, stimulants, beta-blockers most commonly therapeutic groups water bodies. identified with highest surface wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) both time lags sulfamethoxazole (SML), acetaminophen (ACT), carbamazepine (CBZ), diclofenac (DCF), ibuprofen (IBU), caffeine (CFA), naproxen (NPX), ciprofloxacin (CPF). data set their can be used create a list priority substances found supply provide primary parameters during implementation best-suited technologies for removal municipal WWTPs.

Abstract Determining where animals are, and if they are persisting across protected landscapes, is necessary to implement appropriate management conservation actions. For long‐lived those with boom‐and‐bust life histories, perspective time contributes discerning temporal trends in occupancy persistence, potentially identifying mechanisms affecting parameters. Long‐term data particularly useful areas quantify indicators of change that may be less obvious or occur more slowly. We used long‐term amphibian from Rocky Mountain National Park (RMNP) a Bayesian modeling framework estimate changes occupancy, colonization, persistence amphibians over three decades explore the effects climate, landscape change, visitor use as behind observed changes. Our results indicate colonization low and/or declining for Pseudacris maculata , Lithobates sylvaticus Ambystoma mavortium occupied catchments increasingly isolated. found have consistently negative effect on RMNP, all species likely occupy complex habitat higher proportion wetlands. While these sobering, also provide way forward mitigation efforts can target identified drivers change.

The occurrence and distribution of 111 organic micropollutants (OMPs) were evaluated in water sediment samples from Lake Mälaren, Sweden, using a liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry method. partitioning contaminants between lake compartments was estimated solid coefficients (Kd) carbon-water (KOC). In total, 30 24 OMPs detected sediment, respectively. Concentrations ranged low ng/L to 89 (lamotrigine) ng/g dry weight (dw) 28 dw (citalopram) sediment. Carbamazepine, lamotrigine, caffeine, tolyltriazole the dominant compounds Mälaren (both sediment). Seventeen both samples, including carbamazepine, DEET, tolyltriazole, bicalutamide, cetirizine. Log Kd values varied 0.84 for lamotrigine 4.4 citalopram, while log KOC 2.1 5.9 citalopram. These results indicate that sorption plays minor role removal all analyzed aqueous phase except citalopram cetirizine, which showed high potential. environmental risks assessed based on RQ values. worst-case scenario risk assessment conducted maximum measured environment concentration. For most target OMPs, fexofenadine, oxazepam, diclofenac, below 0.01, indicating or no ecosystems.
